The City of Vidalia owned real property used as an airport. The City permitted a company, Piggly Wiggly Southern, Inc., to construct an aircraft hangar on the property. Aileen Nobles later purchased the hangar from Piggly Wiggly and entered into a lease-purchase agreement for it with S.S. Air, Inc. S.S. Air used the hangar for business purposes, including storing equipment and renting space to others. The hangar was a large structure but was bolted to a concrete slab, allowing for its disassembly and removal. No formal lease agreement existed between the City and the appellants (Nobles and S.S. Air), and no rent had been paid to the City for the use of the land since 2001. After failed negotiations to purchase the hangar, the City filed a petition to compel the appellants to remove it from the property. The trial court found a landlord-tenant relationship existed and ordered the appellants to remove the hangar at their own expense. The appellants challenged this ruling.
