Chicago-Kent issues

Topic: Meta School: Illinois Institute of Technology (Kent) 2026–2027 cycle 1 week ago Edited

With the Illinois Institute of Technology declaring financial exigency and reading stories from current students on Reddit about the mess it has caused at the school, is anyone else having second thoughts about applying? It’s a great school in labor law, which is what I want to get into, but there’s so much uncertainty around this place now, and I don’t want to get stuck in a bad situation.

Whether they diverge from IIT as a parent university or not, they have a very strong and well-regarded alumni network that will keep it from going under. The sample of people complaining on Reddit about the lack of communication is numerically consistent with various complaints about other schools; no school has all positive comments. Their most recent stats show that last year was their highest admissions stats yet. Rankings, however relevant, will recover. I would not want to miss out on the opportunity to attend a great school because of temporary situations out of their control. :)

I’m actually in the exact same boat as you! I’m currently 50/50 on applying. If I’m able to get a fee waiver from them then I will be applying, but if I don’t then I will not. Whether or not I choose to attend will ultimately depend on what current students say about this situation in a few months.

Yeah, I suppose they could get things under control, which would be nice. Chicago-Kent has always been spoken well of, and I hope the situation with ITT doesn’t damage things too much.
