I think it’s just not structured in a way that invites discussion. The chance me posts in particular, since it is not like any of us random 0ls would have a better guess than what the aggregate data suggests….

That’s a fair criticism. I agree completely, and I actually removed the chance me post button last week.

Any other ideas?

Maybe some megathreads could be useful. Specifically about stuff about why applicants are choosing specific schools and whatnot or general thoughts on how the cycle is going. Could also advertise the community section better as well so people know it exists. I think the main thing though is to find a reason to use it over just posting and discussing on reddit.

I second this. I think the live chat is really good, but part of its draw is that there is pretty decent daily engagement there and quick feedback. If we had megathreads on general topics and maybe you sprinkle in some of your analysis about the current cycle you are seeing on the backend, it could drum up some engagement.

Agreed with all of this. Not only does there need to be more promotion of this as a feature and directing people towards it, but it needs to offer at least one of the following over Reddit:

  • better community vibe overall
  • more engagement on each post
  • more detailed and useful responses on each post (perhaps utilizing the data features I’ve seen from the handful of chance me’s)

Otherwise there isn’t any real reason to use this over the lawschooladmissions reddit (despite how overly saturated that is with 3.9x 17x chance me’s about the same 10-20 schools every time), or even the live chat already on here. I think there could be a niche for it with all the data accessible and with the loss of the outsidet14lawschools reddit, but it would require an active time investment by the admins

I agree with everything said. As a mid-0L, I have to imagine that once I am a 1L I will look back and wish that there were extensive forums answering all of the random and illogical hypotheticals I create with my wandering imagination. While these can often be found sifting through the general toxicity and misinformation on reddit, I have found in my time on this website that the community is much more supportive and responsive, I feel no hesitation to ask questions and receive helpful answers - and anyone that is able to shed insight, usually is, in a respectful and constructive manner.

Mega threads including information regarding schools could provide unique and special insights into applicant experiences, live updates into exactly how the application process works for each school (I know myself, and many others wish we knew the process step-for-step), and also just anyone able to share their experience with admissions, visiting the schools, talking with deans, etc. Recently, there has been a lot of chatter in the general chat regarding GULC interviews, and I remember that people were specifically referring to individual deans are retelling their experience and thoughts. While in a mega thread this information may not be as readily volunteered for privacy reasons - I still think it could be a valuable, permanent fixture that contains information for all of the many, many overthinkers on this website… lol including myself
