About & Wisdom
Atacama's wisdom
Reapplicant with slightly improved GPA (see WhaleBarnacle from last cycle)
Yale: 250 on disparities in education
Stan: Wrote books essay; one of “up to 500” invited to do video statement for Knight Hennessy but not selected as finalist (such a tease)
Harvard interview: The most one-sided of all my interviews. I immediately felt good about it (told some friends I probably had a 9/10 performance), but then I fell into a downward spiral of overthinking every response. In particular, I said my “greatest weakness” in terms of law school was that I was naturally more science-minded, so it might take me a little bit longer to understand the nuances of cases, etc. I also read about every possible interviewer and had individualized questions for each. My final question was a fun one—mostly because we were basically out of time and I knew the answer would be quick. In hindsight, not sure if I should have asked a question that was seemingly “unrelated” to HLS (although I felt like it was a genuine quality of life question and something my interviewer would have the answer to…); Waitlisted 3/21; Accepted 5/3
Chicago: UR3 12/14; UR4 1/18 — thought my interview went exceptionally well. Very conversational and my interviewer engaged with many follow-up questions.
Columbia: Interviewed on 3/8/22. Super conversational. My interviewer almost exclusively asked me personalized questions based on my application materials and subsequent responses. It honestly kind of felt like they were trying to sell me on Columbia for 25 minutes (mentioned tons of programs I should look into, etc.)
NYU: Feel like they could sense I just didn’t want to go there…applied for RTK using personal statement.
Penn: Wrote core strengths essay; applied for Toll and rejected. Dean’s Fellow scholarship.
UVA: Interview was super chill. Enjoyed it. Wrote a why UVA about civil rights
Duke: UR3 1/20 — wrote a why Duke on civil rights
Mich: Couldn’t get excited enough about it to write a Why Mich (would’ve felt forced). Wrote one optional which I thought was good, but felt like they could tell me chances of attending were slim.
Northwestern: Did Kira; thought it went well. Invited to apply for Public Interest Scholarship
Gtown: Group interview was “exceptional”…submitted video essay which I’m pretty sure they never actually watched lmao. Blume offeree (interview was super chill, they were so nice and knew a ton about my app)
