Based2L's wisdom
I started this process in February of 2020. I studied for the LSAT for about 6 months (about 2 months of serious study and 4 months of occasionally taking a PT) and went from a 156 to a 167 using only 7sage PTs and free stuff from Khan Academy.
It has been a long time coming, but I am glad I did things the way I did. I am extremely debt-averse so I applied (mostly) to schools that I was confident I could get substantial scholarship money from.
My softs are incredibly uninteresting and largely irrelevant. I have worked as a legal assistant at an insurance defense firm for a little while, but I am still a “KJD” by most standards. I didn’t have involvement in any clubs or organizations; I got some scholarships in undergrad. That is basically it for softs.
At the end of the day, this process is personal. You will be better off if you focus on your own priorities rather than the priorities of others. Look at employment outcomes, know how much debt you will end up with, and do enough research to feel confident that you will be ok.
Look at LSData graphs and use Law School Transparency to get a better idea of the important data for your decision-making. Check NALP and ABA 509 reports!!!
I ended up choosing 🌽Iowa🌽 because it will allow me to have under 40k in law school debt which is pretty life-changing for an FGLI law student like myself.
Best of luck, future applicants.
