DISCLAIMER: I AM GOING TO SOUND VERY NITPICKY ABOUT MY APPLICATION, GPA, AND LSAT IN THE FOLLOWING SECTION. I AM CONTENT WITH MY OUTCOME AT THE END OF THE CYCLE. THIS IS JUST WHAT I WOULD TELL MYSELF ON HOW TO IMPROVE MY OUTCOMES IF I WERE TO GO BACK IN TIME.
Study hard for the LSAT. Like, take the amount of time you think you need for the LSAT and multiply that by at least 2. I kinda only studied seriously ~2.5 months after graduating college in May and took it in August, then got too lazy to continue studying for my scheduled October retake because I started working full time and cancelled last minute. It’s in the past now, but I wonder if I could have gotten a couple points extra if I studied a bit harder/longer to get me at or above some of the other T14 medians besides Duke and Berkeley.
GPA matters more than anything in undergrad. If you’re dead set on going to law school and want to have T14 options (like I was), I would strongly suggest just doing the easiest major/classes possible to maximize your GPA. I majored in economics, which was honestly kind of a mistake, because I could have very well strictly taken humanities classes and bumped my GPA up by a little bit, which would have put me at or above more T14 GPA medians. Also, if you’re a high schooler reading this, be wary of taking CC classes willy nilly to get ahead in credits. I got a couple Bs in some of them when I was 16/17 not thinking much of it and came to find out much later that those will factor into your LSAC gpa, which dragged me down a little bit my university gpa.
