The dream: Big Law
About & Wisdom
BeegYoshi's wisdom
If you have an atrocious undergrad GPA, there’s still hope.
Getting a mid-to-upper 170’s score is essential if you are sub 3.0, so take as long as you need to obtain that score if you’re certain that law school is the right path for you. I studied full-time for around 7 months and took the test twice before I got a 174 on my third attempt. Apply broadly and look at the lsd.law school data - be realistic about schools, especially in the T14, that have GPA floors. A 174 LSAT is the 75th percentile for Yale, but there was zero chance that was I getting into Yale/Stanford/Harvard/Berkeley etc. with a 2.66. I probably should not have applied to Vanderibilt or USC, but was going off 7sage’s chances calculator (which is very flawed).
Your personal statement is almost as important as nabbing a high LSAT score - those 2 pages have to be gripping, persuasive, and immaculate. Similarly, your addenda (at the very least, you’ll be writing one for your GPA) must persuade the reader that you will NOT be a liability to the school’s metrics, that you WILL succeed now (where you did not in undergrad), etc.
Finally, blessings to WashULaw for giving me a second chance - I am extremely grateful and lucky.
