BirdGang215's wisdom

Really try to get the highest LSAT score possible. I took the LSAT 6 times (129,139,145,149,145,157) over a five year period. I wanted to go to law school since I was 22. Im now 27 turning 28 and will be 30 turning 31 when I graduate. Never give up on your dreams if you really want them. Where there is a will there is a way.

If you are below both medians really make sure to write every single “optional” essay to give yourself the best shot of acceptance.

Don’t get too caught up in rankings or prestige look up the aba 509 numbers bar passage rate and employment outcomes.

When choosing a school think of which one can get you to your goals at the cheapest price.

I was torn between leaving Cali and attending Howard but I chose Howard because it had better employment outcomes than Hastings, has a better alumni network, and gave me more money. I also have the option of returning to Cali after graduation if I want. Im originally from the east coast but have lived in Cali since 2020.

Conditional scholarships are a bad deal but look at the numbers in terms of who lose them each year if you have to take one. Howards scholarships usually are conditional on being in the top 50% of your class. Hopefully they drop this stipulation in the future.

Please do not sleep on Howard as an option. Yes the admin SUCKS because they are understaffed in their admissions department but you will get the same opportunities at Howard in terms of firms recruiting as a T-14 school. They also have a great public interest program. As a black applicant you want to be in spaces where you are welcomed and being the only black student at a PWI in a section can be extremely tough. Howard has a phenomenal legal writing program that prepares its students for their legal careers as well which constantly differentiates its students from others in regards to job opportunities.

Lastly, do not get caught up in the reddit lawschooladmissions forum. Don’t let the 170+ scorer applicants discourage you or make you feel inadequate because of your stats or school acceptances. Always shoot your shot and believe in yourself. The schools that reject you; it’s their loss not yours!
