About & Wisdom
BriefHighDeer's wisdom
Decided to take the money and run (not that it was looking good for the schools I was waiting on though) Even if I got lucky enough to make it into a school I withdrew from, I knew I wouldn’t get anywhere close to a full ride. I felt that having $250k+ of debt was not for me.
R&R applicant who didn’t get into any schools last year. It worked out for the best though and I’m glad I got another year before law school. If you’re going to R&R don’t feel too down on yourself. I genuinely am so happy I did and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I applied to all schools with October LSAT of 168. Took January LSAT and got it up to 170. Fordham and Georgetown made their decisions right before I got the new score. Updated schools on my new LSAT and started receiving more decisions.
Biggest advice would be to ask for fee waivers. Every school that I asked gave me one. Should’ve asked them all, it doesn’t hurt if they say no.
Apply as early as you can. Especially Duke. Found out a bit too late that they don’t tend to accept anybody past early December. Also you’re less likely to be stuck waiting until March/April.
URMS, make sure you do the diversity statements and explain how your experience has made your life unique. This is the first year after the SCOTUS decision and it is crucial to do a diversity statement. That was my biggest oversight as I only mentioned my URM status another way and that is one of the reasons why I believe I “underperformed” as a URM.
In the end, it’s all going to be ok. Try not to obsessively refresh the status checkers and analyze every single person’s profile. It honestly gives you 0 benefit to refresh LSD 100 times a day (trust me I know). Of course that’s easier said than done, but just try your best to enjoy life before law school. Good luck
