About & Wisdom
Bucket's wisdom
A few thoughts on waitlists, “your chances,” R&R, the LSAT, and advice in general:
Never give up on waitlists, especially ones that are known to have good movement (like in my case with HLS). A strong, school-specific Letter of Continued Interest (LOCI) can go a long way. Do not send the same LOCI to every school, tweaking a few clinics and professors here and there. If you’re serious about a school, be serious about the LOCI.
Also, don’t base your chances of admission off of what anyone tells you or the “Chance Me” tool in LSD. This is a helpful guide in general, but it should not deter you from applying anywhere. I had a <5% chance (according to LSD) to get into HLS based on previous years, and it worked out in the end.
I’m also an R&R applicant who previously applied with the GRE. R&R is not for everybody, but in my case the investment in time and money was worthwhile as I went from previously having BC Law with $10k/year to HLS. In addition, if you have a below median GPA do not apply with the GRE – don’t trust any GRE-LSAT score converters (I learned this the hard way).
Use LSAT Demon or 7Sage to study for the LSAT (I used the Demon). Try a free-trial of both and pick whichever approach aligns with your personal study needs. I also know the Demon has resources for students that need support affording their service. It’s a risk to invest a lot in LSAT study, but the scales could end up being tipped in your favor by way of scholarships and better outcomes post-law school.
Lastly, don’t take any advice you read or hear as gospel. Even what I have just written. Everyone’s process is different. Everyone has different needs and goals. Absorb information through a critical lens and distill what applies to you and ignore what does not.
