CDROMULUS's wisdom
You got this. Don’t let others define your goals or your success for you.
UofO bound!
Here are my thoughts at the end of my cycle:
If you can renegotiate scholarships DO SO.- Using some of my other scholarship offers as leverage I was able to increase other offers at other schools.
Take your peers advice with a grain of salt.- Remember that they’re also 0Ls.
Proofread, proofread, proofread.- Then get someone else to proofread your resume/personal statement/any other writing that is required. (I misspelled “amateur” on my resume, but I don’t think anyone noticed).
Rest, take breaks often. - When you go to the gym you don’t slam out 40 reps in the space of ten minutes right? You break it down into sets. Your brain is a muscle, it needs time to rest between study sessions.
-
The LSAT is a mean test. It’s learnable though. I had a 10 point increase from my diagnostic score after about 2 months of studying. My 158 was all I needed for my goal school.
Shoot your shot.- Don’t make the admissions council’s decision for them.
Find a community that fits your goals.- LSData and the LSA subreddit can be incredibly toxic. Use them to find likeminded individuals and then try to create/join a healthy space where you can constructively plan, discuss, and think about your decisions.
(TIMELINE)
August 2022 - November 2022: Studied for the LSAT, 3-5 hour days, 5 days a week
November 2022 - January 2023: Worked on personal statement, applied to schools
January 2023 - February 2023: Waited for schools to respond
February 2023 - March 2023:** **Waited for schools to respond
March 2023 - April 2023: Withdrew my applications from schools, narrowed down my list to about 10, then 5, then 2, then deposited at UofO. Visited both UNM and UofO, which were my top two choices.
April 2023 - June 2023: Searched for housing
June 2023 - August 2023: Security deposit, UHaul rental, move in date
My only other tip is to maintain a positive outlook. It could be always be worse. Good luck on your journey! I’ll be rooting for you.
