The dream: Criminal Defense/Appellate Law
About & Wisdom
Catmom101's wisdom
THE MOST HELPFUL THING IMO was moot court- every interview asked about it and if i would do it in law school, i think it is a huge green flag
PS about why law blah blah, but tied in to getting suspended in high school and feeling like I had no one advocating for me (idk if this helped or hurt me but a clinic professor from ttu law said it was a good narrative). Tied all my experiences into why I want to work in criminal defense.
GPA addendum/lowkey sob story lol, about freshman year of undergrad constantly going home to check on my mom because she had just gotten out of rehab and had a failed suicide attempt before i moved for college. Showed that I have had an upward trend for my gpa, I have made honor roll every semester since freshman year.
One internship working in investigations for indigent defense. Part time job not legal related at all for over a year. President of moot court team and 2x Sweet Sixteen finalist as well as 9th overall speaker at regional tournament.
Did not write a diversity statement but I am a Hispanic female (my last name is kinda a dead giveaway)
10/04 OU A!! I am so happy about this one and the scholarship offer for my stats is a slayyyyy
10/27- TTU A! have very strong connections to criminal defense attorneys i have worked with and my goal is crim defense and/or appellate advocacy. great moot court program here
12/16- UMN WL! Honestly shocked i didn’t get an R and I am lost for words how happy I am over a WL and hope to turn it into an A!
1/19- TAMU R :( honestly my September self would be heart broken but after seeing the campus and watching student interactions, i am fine with the R. I did send them updates in december about my accomplishments and higher gpa as well as a small LOCI talking about my interest in their clinics. life goes on!
1/29- SMU WL :/ my last shot at being in DFW so it kinda sucks because even if i do get an A later scholarship money will probably be out. Still debating on sending a LOCI since I already did in December when i sent out application updates to all the schools. I specially mentioned how I was interested in their Inns of the Court program.
