UPDATES
Two full ride offers!! Temple and American University really came through- Priority waitlist at Fordham, regular WL at GUCL and GWU
- Hold from NYU since February
- Withdrew from BC and BU after WL decision (decided against school in Boston)
- Withdrew from UMD and Temple based on employment outcomes and location
- Withdrew from Fordham after a school tour (did not think I’d fit with the vibe of the school and didn’t get the feeling that they really valued public interest students as much as students bound for Big Law jobs)
Stats:
Took the LSAT 3 times to get a score I was happy with and wound up with an 8 point increase from first to last score. - My LSAT GPA was a little bit lower than I was expecting. I provided an additional document with my applications with my grades from a semester abroad, which weren’t included with my transcript.
Softs:
I have been a full-time legal assistant for an immigration firm for almost 2 years. Before that, I had two paid internships with law firms in college, one for 1.5 years with an immigration firm and the other for about 8 months at a real estate firm. - I included all of my legal and political volunteer experience throughout college and after graduation. Volunteer experience related to immigration law.
- I teach a dance class (volunteer) and am still a competitive athlete and included this in my resume.
-
Worked 25-35 hours a week during college, which I included on my resume.
URM:
Hispanic/Latina applicant- LGBTQ -
First-generation lawyer
App Materials:
I wrote my personal statement on overcoming a chronic illness diagnosis during college and how that experience shaped my professional aspirations. - Provided diversity statement to all schools. - Simple, 2-page resume provided.
