Changing my profile to public to show that there is hope for splitters! Shoot your shot!

If you’re concerned about your stats, pour your heart out into those essays. Have multiple people give you honest, critical feedback - it will go a long way.

Tips for essays:

  • Take time to really reflect on why you want to go to law school. Write down any thoughts, but eventually try to condense these thoughts into one sentence. This sentence should be the heart of your personal statement!
  • Be genuine. Retain your personal voice, and don’t use big words that you wouldn’t use in real life. Read ALL your essays out loud - they should sound like you and flow naturally.
  • Get to the point. It’s tempting to talk at length about tough times/past struggles, but we want to focus on how you overcame these challenges and why you’re fit to be a lawyer now. What have you learned? How have you grown? What can you offer to your top choice school, and most importantly, what does your top choice school offer you? Try to answer these questions succinctly, then build your essays out from there. The most useful piece of advice I can give is to review your essays like an RC passage: what is the author’s main point?

I found admissions-related podcasts to be pretty useful (i.e. 7Sage Admissions, Status Check w/ Spivey). I also watched most - if not all - of Dean Z’s videos on YouTube, specifically those where she reviews real applications. Pulling info from these different resources allowed me to get my application + résumé in great shape, and really taught me to view my own app from the pespective of an admissions officer!

Happy to chat if any others need advice. Good luck this cycle! Woohoo!
