About & Wisdom
CuteElatedOtter's wisdom
Remember that admissions are above all, a game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes it rains. You are still a person, you will find a law school where you fit and you belong. Literally it is going to be okay, but if you find yourself feeling down about some results, make sure you hold the space for that emotion and let it pass (this is me and my therapist talking).
Here’s the deal: I am TRASH at standardized testing. This really took time for me to wrap my head around. Am I thrilled with a 154? No. But am I proud of myself for grinding through college and finishing with a super high GPA in 3.5 years? DEFINITELY YES. My uGPA seriously kept me in the game and I hope it does the same for you too. Also, at some point you have to decide when enough is enough with the LSAT. Yes, it is important, I will never deny that, but it cannot dominate your life. Once you’re in, remember it no longer matters because you got in and you belong there.
Write about what feels relevant to you and your experiences. If you’re like me, with my LSAT score, I had to show in other ways (my writing and LORs) that I am an asset to schools. Get multiple perspectives on your essays and your application. RESEARCH!! If the schools are using an entire committee to look at you and your application, wouldn’t you want to put in the same time and effort to finding the right schools for you? Do the work early so then you can apply early, and get the scores/money/whatever you need to succeed. When applying, make sure your Iist is as long and diverse as possible. Utilize fee waivers whenever possible if money is an issue.
Your goals and dreams are valid, but remember that everyone else’s goals and dreams are also just as valid. Empathy is a trait that takes time to learn and cultivate. Start learning it now.
Find good sources and stick to them, because too many opinions and ideas will make your head spin. Mine were LSAT Demon and their Thinking LSAT podcast, Spivey Consulting, LSData (this website), Law School Toolbox and Law School Transparency. My sincerest congratulations to you when you get in, and best of luck during the process.
BONUS if you made it this far–I decided to go to Houston because my personal and professional goals align more in that location than it does at UNLV, despite them giving me more money. But those were my top two acceptances, if that matters :)
