In case anyone finds my profile and wants to use it as a reference point for evaluating your chances at UTK, here is the relevant info for how I got accepted with a GPA so far below their median: Applied early decision. I know a lot of people say it’s worthless for law schools, but I know in my gut that without it I definitely would’ve been waitlisted. Strong personal statement. Not to fellate myself too much but I cooked on my personal statement. Specifically, my statement was focused on explaining the circumstances surrounding my low GPA and why my GPA isn’t a good indicator of the caliber of student I am. Specifically what happened is, when I got to college, I didn’t care about school and had no goals so I failed every class my first term and dropped out. I put my head on straight, came back after a year break, and was a pretty much straight A student. So my GPA may blow mega ass, but I had a good story behind it. I also imagine my LORs played a decent role. One was from the Head of Graduate Studies in my major, and one was from a normal professor who was a major glazer of my work, so I had a big name and a big fan in my corner, both of which I imagine helped me out. I don’t know much about evaluating softs but mine are as follows: completed my major’s honors program, queer, legacy admit with dad and brother who both went to UTK. Hope this info is helpful. I know that most of this stuff can’t be replicated, there isn’t much here that you can take and apply to your unique situation, but I put it here to provide an honest overview of why I got in, maybe that helps someone, maybe not.
