Yes, I have a terrible GPA.
Yes, I was academically dismissed from my UG and had to apply for readmission.
Yes, I struggled with my mental health (and continue to do so).
After graduating, I also put in work. I found my passion, and spent 5+ years working in the Public Interest world.
I wrote a GPA addendum, a diversity statement, Why X statements, and any supplemental essay I could that allowed me to share who I am and what I bring to the table.
For some schools, it wasn’t enough. But I consider every WL a victory, and every R a lesson learned and motivation for the future.
