Gaylaxy's wisdom
I entered the 21-22 application cycle a little unsure about my August LSAT score and whether applying with a 168 would enable me to accomplish my goals. After considering retaking the LSAT, I ultimately decided against it because I did not believe I’d be able to successfully study for the exam during the school year and had concerns about delaying my applications until later in the cycle by waiting for my score/wanting to do another retake if I didn’t see the score increase I wanted. I thought it’d be better to invest my time into writing supplemental essays, see where I ended up, and applying again during the 22-23 cycle with a new LSAT score if I was not satisfied with the results.
I’m so glad I made that decision! I got into my top choice - in December and with an awesome scholarship offer, no less! I am so proud of this accomplishment, and I do not believe it would have been possible if I chose to torture myself over increasing my LSAT score by 2 points rather than pouring my heart and passion into my application essays. I don’t think people should aimlessly retake the LSAT just because others say you have to score mid-to-high in your PT range or should maximize your potential. If you have to retake to be in the ballpark of your goal schools, I believe in you and wish you luck! However, if your score is already decently high, please remember that standardized tests are only worth so much pain and it’d likely make you healthier, happier, and maybe even more successful to step away from the LSAT and focus on other aspects of your application.
