- I solicited need-based fee waivers from Yale and Harvard (denied by Stanford) and merit-based waivers from Georgetown and Berkeley. Berkeley was for Fulbright and Georgetown just the general merit-based waiver, although they reached out later and gave me a CRS waiver anyway. Everywhere else was unsolicited and these arrived throughout September and into early October. If you want to apply in September, go for it. But if you’re enrolled in CRS, have gotten any unsolicited waivers, and want more, consider waiting a little while! It could definitely pay off.
- I had a Character and Fitness disclosure. I got in a car crash when I was 17 and ended up with a Failure to Yield citation. At first I thought this fell under the category of “minor traffic violation” and I wouldn’t need to disclose, but every law school/advisor/practicing attorney I spoke to advised me to be overly cautious. To save you the Google searches and stress I experienced: when in doubt, just disclose.
- Finally, I wrote at least one optional essay for almost every school I applied to. Either I filled one of their prompts or used a more general Statement of Perspective (diversity statement). No clue if this helped or not, as I literally just applied, but it makes me feel as though I’ve sent in more comprehensive apps. Cheers!
