GunnyDragon's wisdom
Softs will help, but even if you’ve got exceptionally high ones, many schools, given how the game is played, will still care most about your LSAT and GPA. That is just how it is. So, live in the real world and understand that, for the most part, it all just comes down to numbers.
Apply as early as you can; that helps out tremendously. I obviously didn’t do that.
I would suggest spending much more time studying for the LSAT, unlike me. It will be what gets you into the school you want the most with the scholarships you need.
Either that, or serve for a GI Bill that pays for the whole thing (but I wouldn’t advise that).
In the end, it will be grit that gets you through most hardship. If you can find the discipline and the drive to act against your impulses to withdraw, you will find yourself accomplishing more than you imagined.
I got out the hood, so can you, champ.
