Hard work and a cohesive narrative help a lot. I spent approximately 1 year (mixed levels of intensity) studying for the LSAT and went from 152 to 171.

I’m a KJD, but I’ve had several unusual internships. I’m also an engineering major in a genuinely unique program. Experiences in this program have shaped my perspective and were primarily the subject of my PS. My resume was 2 pages as well.

I did not write a DS since I felt I would be repeating my PS, and I didn’t want to cut my PS story short by making it a DS. All of my statements were proofread by at least two other people. Be sure to use resources provided by your university (career office, etc.) for application help! Take everyone’s advice with caution though, and submit an application that is true to you and that you think will be best.

Berkeley: Extended my PS to 4 pages (times new roman, 12 pt font). Wrote a fairly persuasive Why Berk as well (at least I think it was).

UMich: Wrote a Why X. Got accepted right after I was accepted to Berk under BED but before I was able to withdraw my app. I was more than a bit sad to withdraw on the same day I was accepted.

Davis: Submitted a longer PS (3-page I think). No Why X. I’ve heard mixed advice from Davis folks on including a Why X, but it seems like you don’t need to submit one.
