Don’t be afraid to approach law school differently than most do. I chose to keep my costs down, go to school in a location I like, and only applied to one school where I would’ve had to take out loans. I got a lot of scholarship money, plus another scholarship and a fellowship that mean I will graduate debt-free in three years. Taking on tens of thousands of dollars in debt at 8% interest was unconscionable to me. When I graduate, I can go work anywhere I want without needing to max out my salary to pay off loans. For me, early financial independence and doing the work that matters to me is more valuable than prestige or pedigree. But YMMV.
