Wisdom

All peace and love to everyone here no matter what. This process sucks and is absolutely grueling. Even if you didn’t get into your dream school, you’re still a champion for overcoming all the difficulties you’ve had in getting here. Just with the law school admissions process, you’ve had to study for and take the LSAT, finish an undergraduate education, do internships, work to support yourself during the process, and write a whole bunch of essays. Make sure to remember that all the ad comms and all the other applicants are all people too. Definitely make sure to treat everyone with love and respect.

I took the LSAT twice, scraping by a couple more points my second time. Retaking a 172+ score is extremely risky. You’re not only risking the possibility of doing worse, but the schools can also see your full LSAT report (with all the tests/scores you’ve had). The Deans of Admissions at HLS and YLS both had similar sentiments in one episode of their podcast, where they said something along the lines of retaking such a high score shows poor judgement. That advice notwithstanding, to study, I used Mike Kim’s LSAT Trainer initially (for nearly a year of on-off studying), and then took practice tests fairly frequently (2+ tests/week) for a few months. After my first test (a good score, but I knew that I could do better and that taking the test again would be a net positive for my admissions/scholarships prospects), I took a week-or-so long break and jumped back into studying. This time, I made sure to read the PowerScore book on logic games for their weird games sections (patterns, maps, circular) to ensure I’d feel confident no matter what was thrown at me. I also picked up the Loophole in Logical Reasoning (Ellen Cassidy) to try and do better in LR (which was fairly hit or miss for me). I highly recommend that book and wish I had picked it up sooner. Something else I also did was listen to the PowerScore podcast on my walks to class — wasn’t always the best way to study, but it at the very least made me think I was doing something (which definitely had some sort of positive effect).
