LordClosequad's wisdom
This cycle was my second and final cycle. I worked in a large firm in college, took a few years off to work after graduating and fully recommend not rushing from undergrad to law school if your situation will allow it.
In the end I visited, UMiami, UNLV, and DU for admitted students’ days and tours. I genuinely have nothing but good things to say about all three of these universities and highly recommend visiting in person. That is what ultimately gave me clarity in my decisions.
My final tips for future applicants:
Remember, you are more than a number. Your stats do not define you. Do not let this process take away from enjoying this time in your life because more than likely, a lot will change for your by next year regardless of the outcome of your application process.DO NOT CHECK YOUR STATUS DAILY OR MORE THAN ONCE A DAY. Admissions can tell and it makes you look desperate (idk if that is actually true… but regardless love yourself and don’t do it).Say “thank you.” If you receive a LOR (letter of rec) be sure to thank whoever wrote it. Let them know which schools you are accepted into and your final decision. The same should go for your boss, your professors, your parents/spouse/friends who supported you during the R’s/WL’s/Holds etc. They’re rooting for you along with a lot of other people in your life.Do your own research & don’t rely on just USNWR rankings - some of my “top choices” at the beginning of this process fell off the list after I realized they didn’t have the right programs for my interests. Prestige is part of it but it isn’t everything.Make a list of what is important in your decision. If you’re applying outside the top 50 schools, odds are that you’ll end up at a regional school and your best career opportunities will be confined to that region (which is totally OK, I love Colorado and can picture myself staying there for good). My priorities personally came down to Total Cost, Location/Safety, Career Opportunities, My Partner’s Career Opportunities, and the Overall Sense of Community. Do not plan to transfer from the school your commit to. Everyone who attends is smart, you cannot guarantee that you will rank within the top X%.Take it easy. This process may feel like binary success/failure at times, and while realistically it is important, it is going to be a blip in your life when it is all said and done. Celebrate the wins & celebrate your effort. You’re gonna do great.
