MeowMeowMeow13's wisdom
Believe in yourself and give it your best shot! Do not sell yourself short in this process, the possibilities are endless and unpredictable and you are truly your harshest critic. My extremely low GPA haunted me for years before I finally applied, and now I’m attending a T-40 law school with scholarship! Specific advice below:
Max out on your LSAT score as much as you can. Due to time, I went ahead and applied as I wanted to get into school, but I was PTing higher than 166 regularly. In another world, I would keep studying and retake to reflect my PT potential. I went from a diagnostic of 154 to 166 in about 2 months of consistent studying with 7Sage, Khan Academy and a private tutor. I was putting in about 5-10 hours a week studying and PTing. I also worked full time and maintained a pretty strict exercise routine.
I would also recommend applying earlier in the cycle.
Ensure your mental health is in a stable, healthy place before expecting yourself to perform at your full potential. I was diagnosed with 3 different mental health disorders during this process and am finally adequately medicated, and that’s when I started seeing my true abilities be demonstrated in my test performance and writing skills.
Check out more local, independent LSAT tutors before considering private tutoring services from any big company. I worked with a independent tutor and it really changed my trajectory since I was receiving more personalized, mindful guidance. She also assisted me in navigating my ADHD diagnosis that I received while working with her.
I had 3 LORs, 2 from academic professors from my undergraduate degree and 1 from the current attorney I work with. I don’t really know if these were good letters or not.
I believe that I provided a really cohesive narrative throughout my personal statement, my GPA addendum, my C&F statement (MIP and 2 speeding tickets) and any “Why X” essays I did. I used 7Sage’s 30 minute “Essay Review” with a former admissions counselor two or three times to finalize my personal statement GPA addendum.
I graduated undergrad in 2021 and would recommend taking time between your undergrad and law school. I learned so much about myself during this time and don’t think I’d be as mentally healthy as I am now, nor had as much admissions success, had I gone straight to law school. I believe this is especially important for any applicants coming from a traumatic childhood and/or adulthood!
