Gonna write this now even though its mid-March.
Don’t sleep on your essays and recommendation letters. Fit is a huge factor for these schools and you can’t really fake fit. Be yourself in every piece of writing you submit. In your PS, try to interweave multiple stories or timelines from your life to fully articulate who you are. I would stay away from statements that are centrally focused on one story, but rather focus on a value that matters to you and multiple instances where you exemplify that. The DS can be as much about your allyship and commitment to equity as it is about your own identity.
Also, I was very involved in undergrad. I think this helped my fit and story (to the point I make above) - my PS essay was about my work experience, but I used times / references in college to share with admissions counselors the continuity of my core values.
And finally, having legal work experience helped ME decide that law school is worth it. If you have the opportunity to, I would do it. And if you are hesitant about law school, and happen to have an opportunity in front of you that isn’t legal-adjacent but you want to do it, I would re-consider going to law school. If you get a law degree, and especially if you pay for it, you are investing in being an attorney. Any disinterest in being an attorney should make you hesitate before making the step of law school admissions entirely. I needed the time from post-college to decide that for me and suggest anyone who is thinking about R&R to consider what I’ve written here.
