FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO IN THE WAITING:
It was easy to drive myself crazy refreshing status checkers, checking my email, and reading Reddit. I had to find something to keep my mind occupied. It’s not healthy to obsess over something out of your control (once you press submit). Personally, I started running, golfing, and even launched a podcast about being in your 20s and living through uncertainty (lol).
FIND SOMEONE TO SHARE IN THE STRUGGLE WITH:
I’m a big believer that life is much better when you have the right people with you for the journey. My family and friends did not understand the law school admissions process, but they were interested in it. I have incredible people in my life, and I spoke to my close family and friends when I got accepted, waitlisted, and rejected. They cheered me on at times and they consoled me at other times. I could not have gone through this process without them. Maybe you do not have close family or even friends to share in your struggle, but you have this website! Find someone, anyone, even a random internet stranger. Don’t try to do this alone.
“TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTALS” - Marshawn Lynch:
I found myself very irritable at times during this process. I was anxious and fearful as the months rolled by. I scheduled several sessions with my therapist to help manage my emotions and anxieties. Please take care of your mind. I had to remind myself that a rejection, or an avalanche of waitlists was not an indictment on me as a person. I had to remind myself how fortunate I was to be in the position that I was in to even have this opportunity. And, I had to remind myself that no matter what law school I attended, I would make the most of it.
SHOOT YOUR SHOT:
I was going to apply to only a few schools at first. I did not know what the term T-14 even meant when I took the LSAT. I did not know what the term “Big Law” meant. I learned these terms and concepts on r/LSA and through asking my sister a lot of questions (she graduated from a T-50 a few years ago). I felt intimidated by how much I did not know. My sister encouraged me to shoot my shot at every school I could see myself attending, no matter the ranking. So, I did. I did not think I would get into UVA Law or Vanderbilt, nor did I think I would get such incredible offers from other institutions. Don’t be afraid to get rejected. Knock on all the doors you can and then see what happens.
