SharpSession's wisdom
My LSAC GPA went from 3.39-3.5 during this cycle. However, according to my school, I have a 3.7 and graduated with honors. LSAC is a scam, and without it, I think my scholarship outcome would have been better.
LSAT:
Don’t sign up to take the LSAT unless you are consistently hitting your goal score in PTs.
You can get a lot of free and low-cost help on the LSAT. I don’t recommend shelling out a lot of money for a service like Kaplan unless you need one-on-one training. The most helpful resource for me was the LSAT Demon, which offered a low-cost, basic option if you have an LSAT fee waiver. I also liked the book “Disrespecting the LSAT” by Nathan Fox, which I found secondhand on abebooks.com.
Timeline:
Start preparing your materials (Including letters of recommendation) the spring before your application cycle. I got my LOR done by June 2022 for the 2023 admissions cycle, and I didn’t have to stress about that. I also got my personal statement done by August 2022, which was nice to have finished.
Finally, find a hobby like knitting. My hobbies are keeping me sane during the long waits.
Feb 16, 2022 mid-cycle update:
This process is a major lesson in letting things go that aren’t meant for you.
I haven’t been rejected from any school that I was really hoping to attend yet. However, the school I was initially most interested in has become less attractive to me since I submitted applications in November. I’ve had several schools show aggressive interest in me, while my top choice still hasn’t made a decision after 4 months. These schools are all comparable in stats and outcomes, so I have to conclude that I would be a better fit at the schools that are actively showing interest in me.
As a side note, the ABA needs to force these schools to respond to applications in a reasonable time frame or return application fees.
Don’t forget this is a consumer process. I withdrew from Geoge Mason today because they still haven’t placed my application under review after MONTHS. To me, this shows the school is unorganized and would not be a good fit. Applicants really need to demand services rendered for fees paid, or this will never change.
March 28 Update:** **
As you’re making your decision, narrow it down to two schools and visit at least one of them.
That way, if it feels like the right fit, you’re set. If it doesn’t feel right, you know to go with the other school. I visited one of my top choices, and it didn’t feel right, which confirmed my decision to choose Wake Forest! TAKE TIME to make your decision. I’m SO GLAD I didn’t rush into mine.
Good luck next cycle, everyone!
