Sort of a URM because I’m Afghan. Before the changes to affirmative action, I would not have been a URM, as I would have been automatically filed under either Asian or white. Since URM status is now only discernible through your diversity statement, I’m not so sure.

Please just do everything in your power to get a good GPA and LSAT. With really good stats you have the license to be more boring on your apps. Not so with me!

If you are a KJD with similar stats to me, you are probably not getting into a T14. To say I beat the odds is an understatement. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try. Shoot your shot and see what happens, but don’t settle for mediocre results. Assume that you will have to reapply with work experience.

And, of course, apply broadly!!! By March, I didn’t even have GULC on my radar. The acceptance came as a huge surprise to me. I’m very, very glad that I applied to almost every top school where I had a decent shot at getting in. I slightly regret not applying to Mich or UVA.
