Schools want students who will enrich their classroom environment. Sell your story. Show them how much they need you. LORs and ECs can make up for lackluster academic performance, although it will not make up the difference for the top-ranked schools. That being said, every school has more applicants than spots, sell sell sell. Half of students are BELOW the median. Don’t self eliminate just because you are below the median. If you would attend a school if you got in, send your application. Have realistic expectations but just know, the answer is always no if you never ask.
