You need support, and whatever that means in terms of you. The journey to law school is a long, drawn out process. If you’re like myself, being first-gen, I had no clue what to expect (my advice also applies to Non-Trad applicants because as we get older relatability becomes more difficult because everyone’s lives are changing and becoming more original). I learned that through the lows, and you will go through lows or situations you didn’t anticipate you’d be in during your application cycle (whether it’s having to take the LSAT again.. and AGAIN.. or waiting for months on a school just to be waitlisted), everyone needs support tailored to them. Many times as first-generation we have support systems, like family and community, but these systems (because we’re first-gen) don’t exactly understand what we’re going through. And their reassurance can come off as somewhat limited or surface (and don’t get me wrong, we appreciate all the support and encouragement but you need more than a “yeah I get that.. but you’re smart you got this..”). You need to find that specific support that you need (whether it’s therapy (someone who allows you to vent about anything and anyone), friends or colleagues that understand the process, or talking to others online that are going through similar situations), you need that proximity in your life to genuinely feel grounded and connected in your experience. It cuts out the anxiety and feelings of doom, and allows you to embrace your experience (pitfalls and all, you’ll start to wade through the blows with ease). Safe travels, and good luck!! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝💛
