I took the GRE. I also spent about 2-3 months editing my essays. Look up real sample essays online for students that got into top schools as a guide for structure. A common theme was overcoming obstacles and vulnerability so don’t be afraid to go deep. In my optional essay I spoke about overcoming family hardships.
