About & Wisdom

Walkingbyfaith22's wisdom

Overview:
I came into the cycle hopeful about my softs, but honestly, they only care about numbers lol >.<!! So, if you can, definitely retake the LSAT (preferably 160 and up) or win competitive scholarships [i.e., MMSP, Mcdonnell, Earl Warren, SEO Law, etc.].

Don’t get me wrong; I was super proud of myself for being waitlisted at top schools with a 145. However, I think I was a bit unrealistic, but it worked out, so do what you want with that information.

Decision Process:
I walked away from a dean fellowship and full ride from Penn State for Wake Forest at the very last min (WL–>A in AUGUST). I was not too fond of the feel of Carlisle and the job placement stats at Penn State. I rejected the offer in July and was 100% fine to reapply in 2024 with a new score. When Wake Forest called, I was relieved I didn’t have to retake the LSAT lol, and the ranking was decent.

EDIT: Bama also took me off the WL, but I had already signed a binding contract with wake. Also, the black students I spoke with hated it >,<

Application Process:
This is my third time applying to law school, and this cycle was particularly exhausting. I applied everywhere in Sept/Oct and waited up to 9 months to hear anything back, and when I did, I was WL. Wrote ALL optional essays, had great addendums worked with 7sage editors, and tried my best to play to my strengths. I SPENT HELLA MONEY so do what’s best for you.

Waitlist Process:
The whole application process was very tiring, but the WL process was far more draining. I met with all my WL deans (I literally flew across the country and had meetings with them). Wrote multiple LOCI’s (with updates [i.e., scholarships, new jobs, volunteering, etc.]), called, email check-ins…you name it, I was doing it. This literally gave me so much depression, and I think that was a waste of time and money; lol the best thing I would say to do is to RETAKE THE LSAT during WL.

Stats:
Lol, probably what you all were waiting for (3) LSAT scores were 143, 145, and 145 in 2019. I had a 3.51 undergrad GPA/4.2 grad. GREAT RESUME worked with United Nations, own a nonprofit, and can speak four languages advanced.

Closing:
I am not 100% sure what area of law I want to practice in, but I wanted to attend a school that earns big law placement, max’d my chances for a Skadden Fellowship, or clerking opportunities depending on my path—if that is important to you, then ranking matters to a degree (just depends on how hard you want to work for it). Will have to decide after the first year if I am transferring to a school with no grades/maxing my chances.

SO GOOD LUCK AND DON’T FUCK IT UP- Rupaul
…but y’know if you do, it’s going to be fine. You’ll be a great lawyer, regardless! If God wants you there, you will be there.
