WarmCloudyBee5's wisdom
As a December applicant, while I don’t think applying earlier would have changed my outcomes for most schools, I do think it would have saved me the stress of having to commit to a school prior to hearing back from all the others! I would recommend applying in October if you can, but if you can’t it’ll be okay!
I wrote optionals for every school I could and took all interviews. I bombed the NU KIRA so if you get nervous during interviews I would practice first. I think I did well for most of my other interviews, with Chicago’s being my favorite! If you do not have the strongest numbers, make sure your essays, rec letters, and interview skills are good because I think they played significant roles as to why I was able to get into most schools with scholarship.
I decided to attend NYU because of the scholarship offer, proximity to family, and that they are top ranked for the area of law I see myself practicing (ultimately why I chose them over Mich). However, if you are completely unsure what type of law you want to do, I would recommend following your heart. That might be a controversial take given how much people recommend following money above all else (which is not a bad thing!) but if you think you’d genuinely be unhappy, DO NOT GO!!!
Lastly, don’t be afraid to apply to super reaches!!! I did not expect to get into Chi at all or even waitlisted at Yale and Harvard. I also regret not applying to Stanford and UVA because I thought my scores were too low, but you never know, so go for it!
UPDATE
Now attending HLS off the waitlist :) like I said before shoot your shot because I never would have expected this at all!!! Always believe in yourself even if it is difficult at times, I really wish I had more self confidence during this process! Never hold yourself back.
