- Academic Suspension for bad grades
ZoomLaw2021's wisdom
*4-5 years of work experience ( inconspicuous offices jobs - nothing law related. no major accolades or awards. Super average Office Space tier work). Did construction work for about a year in the middle of that.
-
White Straight Male no disabilities/disadvantages/hardships of any kind.
Low tier state school in the NCAA D1 mountain west for undergrad. English major - vp of fraternity -played club sports. Studied abroad. LSAT Taken twice first time 148 full exam at testing facility May 2018. Second time, FLEX at home 159. Nov 2020
4th gen Arizona native. - Strong ties to U of Arizona Law. Many direct family members have gone to the law school. Many more have gone there for undergrad. (Lol did not help me get in) 2 letters of rec both from undergrad professors
1 pg double sp addendum for academic suspension (Got poor grades and flunked out) UNH adcom personally liked this he told me it really made the decision because I “owned up and was blunt about failing out’ Not a great personal statement (3 pgs double sp) If I could go back in time I would redo. I did tailor the final paragraphs to why I wanted to go to that school specifically.
I spent a lot of money on apps… I think it was like $900 in total, this included numerous schools not even having application fees, but the LSAC reporting fee added up quick. I think its like $45 per Quite frankly stunned I did not get into Montana or USC, but law admissions is a spooky secret process. -
Waste of money for me to apply to UGA and W&M LOL - I thought that maybe some sympathetic adcom person would take pity on me. Well…. I did see someone get accepted to W&M on this site with my same stats so that one wasn’t that crazy..
*Mississippi Is the most affordable option for me when considering cost of living and tuition. They will be giving me a 20k scholarship my first year - this is intended to offset the out of state difference. I will then have to become a MS resident to keep my costs at this rate. With residency established, I estimate my total cost of attendance (COA) to be $91.6k (at graduation) $114k at 10 years (payoff) with current projected federal interest rates. (that is like $900/mo for 10 years.. yikes..) My other choices are well into the 120-130k range at graduation then climb climb to 150-160k at payoff..
-This did not seem worth it. especially since Ole Miss is now a Tier 2 (top 100) school which was the highest tier I was accepted to anyways. Perhaps San Diego, Oklahoma, Idaho, New Hampshire, etc. play into better job markets? This is really hard to determine. Obviously MS is a challenged state, but there are big cities and jobs available. I have found that each city/state has it’s rough areas and good areas if you do well enough you will be in a comfortable area. Miss did have decent regional placement around the south - which is a great region for the lowest costs of living in the nation. I have done research, and each Law School produces successful lawyers, and each region has good law firms, and decent jobs available currently to newly graduated lawyers (quick search on indeed), so I really do not think that there will be a regional advantage that would constitute a $30-40k premium, perhaps if you go New Hamp then do well and get into some good Boston firm, then it could work, but that to me is still not worth the price difference and the fact that it is really really cold up there. It is also challenging to say what the market will look like in 3-4 years when I am a lawyer… keeping cost down is the biggest known advantage I can give myself. Ole Miss for me. I am excited! Never been to the deep south. This will be an exciting new chapter. Hotty Toddy!
