Try your best to not compare yourself to other applicants. It’s okay. You will still get to law school and you will become a lawyer.
Make sure you get letters of recommendation from people that can actually vouch for you. Bland letters do not help.
Apply as early as possible. Once you’re happy with your LSAT score, you have as good a GPA as you can get, etc., then apply. It definitely helped me with my applications.
Being in-state and out-of-state does play some sort of a role in admissions decisions with public universities. Just something I noticed in my application process. I definitely think it helped me get into UNC with a scholarship.
I would recommend you listen to the interviews with admissions faculty members 7Sage has on their podcast. They offer some insight and useful tips for when applying.
