- Admissions are getting more competitive every year. Apply to a wide range of schools, but not so many that you can’t produce high-quality applications. Answer every supplemental essay sincerely. It’s better to submit your applications a few weeks later than you would like to ensure they are perfect than to apply with a decent application right away in September.

Federal loan caps are now $50k/year. Scholarships matter. Pay close attention to accreditation, employment outcomes, bar passage rate, cost of attendance, and conditional scholarships. While you do not need to attend a T14 to be a great lawyer with solid job prospects, do not agree to attend a predatory law school. If you are not admitted to a reputable school with an unconditional scholarship, take the LSAT again, write new app statements, and try again next year. Your financial security is 100000% worth taking an extra year.
2a. Pro tip from a former undergrad admissions advisor: If you’re embarrassed to tell people you weren’t admitted to law school this year… you can just lie. Just say you decided that you’d like to wait another year. - If your professor agrees to write a letter of rec in August with a November 1st deadline, do not let your fear of being annoying make you wait until December to ask for an update. Professors are busy, you can check in shortly before the deadline you agree on. Try to ask 3 people to write letters of rec for you instead of 2 (or 4 instead of 3, etc.) just in case something like this happens.
