oceantitan01's wisdom
I can say with certainty that I had the cycle of my wildest dreams. I almost can’t believe that it’s over. I put my head down for 4 years for a chance at having this moment arrive, and now it finally has. I’m going to Yale Law School!
BACKGROUND
GPA: 3.99 / LSAT: 167 / Softs: T1.5ish
Three years of work experience and am the recipient of two prestigious awards/fellowships for leadership & graduate study. As a future attorney, my main interests are law teaching/legal academia and litigation.
Heading into the cycle, Yale was my top choice, followed by Harvard, Stanford, NYU, and probably Berkeley. I was deeply impressed, however, by UVA Law after vising Charlottesville. Once they offered me a full-ride, it’s safe to say they became my #2 choice on the list. Berkeley has a special place in my heart for personal reasons; in offering me full-tuition, it became my #3 choice. Although Stanford admitted me in late March, their tardiness prohibited me from ever truly considering their law school.
I’m not sure what happened with Harvard. They probably didn’t like my LSAT score very much. Also, I must admit that I underengaged them throughout the cycle — I had two solid, intimate opportunities (e.g., virtual and physical events) to demonstrate my interest, and I didn’t. My gut tells me that was a difference-maker.
This week, I am accepting my offer to attend Yale Law School at little to no cost. It feels absolutely surreal. I cannot wait to call New Haven, Connecticut my home for the next three years.
WISDOM FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS - More loading…
If you’re on track to be a KJD, I sincerely encourage you to consider doing otherwise. My three-ish years in the workforce have been invaluable for a number of concrete reasons. In addition to building my resume, I now know how to:
- do excellent work;
- supervise and be supervised;
- navigate a professional work environment;
- manage a 65-hour work week; and
- approach my prospective legal field(s)
I must say, however, that the ‘intangibles’ have been the best part. I matured, grew in my confidence, fell in love, and overall, became much, much smarter. Personally, I can’t imagine attending law school without having undergone these wonderful, momentous experiences. I will be a better attorney because of them.
MORE LOADING… Given my unique background, I’m considering offering 1:1 coaching to prospective law applicants. I will offer a reduced rate for FGLI students like me. Please DM me if you’re interested!
