shivroyenjoyer's wisdom

WISDOM FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
Take this with a grain of salt since I kind of did everything but remained KJD
(1) start early
college students, if you have a pre law program on campus meet with the advisors sophomore year or very early junior year to let them know this is the path you want to go on and take the pre-law class if you want (My school’s was boring but it was easy and a credit towards graduation)- Network with lawyers. Sometimes this means a LinkedIn invite or getting to shadow

  • Think about what you want to do with the law. Obviously, you don’t have to know and some people don’t even know by the time they graduate, but this will help you find schools, regions, and may even shape your personal statement.
  • Summer before senior year or your application cycle draft your personal statement
  • I applied between day 1 and week 6 of applications being open, as long as you’re done by November chances are you’re more than fine
    (2) The LSAT is not one size fits all
I did terrible, I admit it. I signed up for a $600 prep course that met for a total of 4 hours over 5 months. I chose not to take the exam again because of the advice from my advisors. Find a study schedule that works for you. This was the one thing I was good at other than RC. I studied every Monday and did practice tests 2-3 days a week towards the end of the week.- TL;DR find a good study schedule, ramp up about 2 months before your exam, and find some good prep whatever that may be for you
  • Also if anyone was wondering, I did not write an LSAT addenda as I felt that it would not be appropriate.
    (3) Do well in undergrad
It doesn’t matter what you major in, enjoy it, do well, have fun(4) Scholarships are negotiable
If you have a top school, be polite, but tell them if you did get into schools with higher rankings or more money from elsewhere- If they really want you there, they’ll oblige
    (5) Pay attention to the culture at the school
I really do recommend visiting in person- Do you need a car? Is it competitive? Do you like the building you will be in for 8 hours a day? Is there good housing for graduate students? These heavily factored into my decision as I wanted to be somewhere where I would love the environment
    (6) Use Your resources
Campus advisors, Free LSAT sites, websites like this one are all super helpful(7) Prioritize your mental health
Starting early will help you do this. No school in the summer, so you’re just making edits when class ramps back up- Reaching the proper center point between peace and anxiety is actually important for good performance on the LSAT
  • Once your application is sent, you need to accept that there is nothing you can do. It’s out of your control. )(This sucks)
  • Remember that once you get that first A you ARE going to law school!!!!!!!
