wildest-dreams's wisdom

I recommend studying at least 6 months for the LSAT, and like, really studying. If I could do it over, I would have studied all winter/spring and taken it early in the summer. That way you can retake it in late summer/early fall if necessary, and still apply relatively early in the cycle. I would also start jotting ideas down for your PS as early as possible. my uGPA was low from first-year STEM courses, but I had a strong upwards trend. if you are reading this as a rising student/freshman/
sophomore in college, GPA should be your #1 priority!

if you are reading this several years before you are applying, I think it’s important for your extracurriculars, work experience, and personal statement to all fit into a cohesive “why law?” narrative. this doesn’t mean that you should only do law-related extracurriculars, but it means that you need to find some common thread that runs through your life/experiences, and connect that directly to “why law?”

I applied everywhere in February, which made March/April incredibly stressful as I waited for 16 decisions with seat deposits rapidly approaching. I would highly recommend applying before Christmas if possible!

My biggest piece of advice is to look to LSD & the LSA reddit for guidance sometimes, but stay off of them as much as you can. Comparison will only make you feel worse, and stats aren’t everything! Don’t take other people’s opinions about the schools you like into consideration too much (unless they are known to be predatory schools) because you know what academic atmosphere/programs/ people/etc. will fit YOU more than anyone else, especially strangers on the internet!

once you submit all of your materials, take a deep breath and treat yourself to something special! you are capable and deserving of this, and eventually you will end up at the right school at the right time*. these things have a way of working themselves out. wishing everyone who tries to navigate this process the absolute best of luck :) *
