…earlier than you think you need to, particularly your main personal statement, as it was hard for me to get momentum for a while. Likewise, get a few trusted friends/family members to proof read for you, because you will inevitably miss silly things from staring at your essays for too long. My only super “unique”…

…my Berkeley and Northwestern apps because I wrote on my personal statements that I would attend if admitted—I don’t recommend doing this.
Hello!! Here are some tips I’ve accumulated from my personal experience for those beginning their law school journeys! Do ALL of the optional essays you can, especially the “why X school”!! Admission committees actually care to learn more about you, your interests, and why attending their particular law school is…
…else here who removed their Rs from their chart for personal happiness reasons and because they dislike the color red. I join that opinion on both grounds. My Rs are below. YLS | RD | no FW | sent 2/15 | rec. 2/16 | cpl. 2/20 | dec. 3/31 HLS | RD | no FW | sent 11/21 | cpl. 11/29 | dec. 1/11 Also, I was rejected…
Personal statement and narrative is SO important. had a near perfect cycle applying to schools where i was below median LSAT for all of them. work experience is important!
Admissions is about distinguishing yourself from others. So do this in any way possible, whether that’s through a high LSAT, unusual resume, or interesting personal statement. Basically, do everything in your power to make the admissions officer remember YOU (in a good way) out of the stack of 40 files they just read.
…safeties. I included why X paragraphs in every one of my personal statements, and I think it helped me avoid YP at safeties (no comment on Mich or UVA LOL). If you genuinely can’t write a why X, you probably shouldn’t apply to that school IMO. Mental health: Know when to log off LSD and reddit. Some info on here can…
…goals. Low-income & first-gen were also emphasized in my personal statements.
Ph. D. in a humanities field related to the law I wish to practice, connection drawn (I hope convincingly) in the personal statement. Have four peer-reviewed articles in print (sole author) and a dissertation. I’m sort of known in my field, not a celebrity by any means but definitely a member of the profession.…
APPLY EARLY! I submitted all applications except for Penn and NYU in early September. While I had strong personal statements and wrote optional ‘Why X’ essays for Berk, Duke, Mich, UVA, Georgetown, GW, and Vanderbilt, I think being in the first wave of applicants in the early fall helped me stand out. I also highly…
Didn’t write any optional essays in addition to my personal statement, unless you count the mandatory Yale 250-word supplement (in retrospect, this definitely hurt me at UVA, Penn, and Columbia, where I was above 75th for both stats and didn’t do a good job demonstrating interest) T4 softs, did some research at my…
Wrote Why X for CLS (integrated into personal statement), Penn (core strengths), Mich, Berkeley, Fordham. Did optional essays for SLS, GULC, NYU (Furman public policy scholarship app), and BU (PI scholarship app). Extremely minor C+F (speeding ticket) disclosed on applications that required disclosure of civil…
Worked hard in personal statement + supplements to create a strong why law/why now narrative. Wrote Why X’s (or each school’s equivalent) for every school outside the T6, plus optional essays for any schools that had prompts. Otherwise, very boring KJD who’s had a lot of luck this cycle :)
I don’t really know what I’m doing. But if I had to say, here’s my best advice: Knock it out of the park on the personal statement. The advice I got was to be memorable – so I did not write about law (although I had a few sentences in the end). Draft early (like really early) and get help from the best writers you…
…organizing on campus, but nothing extraordinary. My personal statement dealt with my experiences with my family and heritage in the borderlands.
Bother every single one of your friends and your family members incessantly to read and re-read your personal statements and essays.
Wrote Why Michigan, Duke, WashU, Cornell, GULC. Wrote Penn Core Values, GULC Unpopular Opinion, Stanford Library Books. Updated personal statement for Columbia. work on your materials early and apply early!
