Don’t listen to the people telling you not to be KJD (or in my case super KJD). They are right that you need time to prepare, but they are wrong in thinking that the clock only starts after you graduate. Take the LSAT as early as possible, apply as early as possible, and believe in yourself. A lack of work…

Average softs: some leadership and research; 🏳️🌈(but I feel weird about it making me T3?) Harvard Interview (S.P.) : way too nervous, didn’t feel like it went well // UChicago Interview (A.W.): very conversational, felt like it went well! Supplemental Essays (if you don’t see it here, I didn’t write it): Michigan:…
Take lots of time on your apps. It took me a few months after taking the LSAT to write my essays. Take a gap year or a few like I did and follow your passion! Your story will write itself with time. Softs really can move the needle. On that note, my interviews were far from ideal and I did notice typos on my apps…

Skip Reddit; listen to Navigating Law School Admissions with Miriam and Kristi! Plan to spend a few months on your essays, and ask your friends and mentors for feedback. Most importantly, have a clear sense of why law school is the right step for you. This isn’t just important for admissions, but for your well-being…
Never let perfect be the enemy of good.
HYP undergrad. My GPA increased from 3.67 to 3.72 during my admissions cycle. I got into NYU, Michigan, Duke, and Georgetown before the GPA increase. PS about my interest in international law and development in Africa. Wrote a DS about representation. 4 strong letters of rec: 2 professors, 1 summer internship, 1…
Do stuff you’re interested in before law school!!
Mexican-American, attended an Ivy+ school for undergrad and graduated in three years. Had some solid internships, did some research, and was involved with student organizing on campus, but nothing extraordinary. My personal statement dealt with my experiences with my family and heritage in the borderlands.
Wrote all optional essays and had fun with the prompts. I’m guessing that humor–especially the self-deprecating kind–was seen as a positive Despite the username, I think having clear reasons for Why Law and (as a KJD in particular) Why Now was real important. Good luck with ur cycles!
Worked hard in personal statement + supplements to create a strong why law/why now narrative. Wrote Why X’s (or each school’s equivalent) for every school outside the T6, plus optional essays for any schools that had prompts. Otherwise, very boring KJD who’s had a lot of luck this cycle :)
Wrote every optional essay possible and a Why X to avoid YP outside the T6. Did not write any DS. If you get an HLS interview, make sure you’re really jazzed and emphasize that it’s your first choice. That’s what I think got me WL’ed, since my interview otherwise went really well.
Study for the LSAT, it’s worth it Tell a cohesive story in your essays
Wrote optional school-specific essays for Yale, Stanford, Berkeley, Georgetown, and UCLA. I have very strong California ties, which may have hurt me at schools outside the state and helped me within the state. I wish I had applied earlier in the cycle.
Can’t really indicate this on the school app chart below, but I was also admitted to Harvard’s Ph.D. program in Philosophy and am thinking of doing a joint-degree in that program. Check back in a month or two for final thoughts after I commit! :)
Go for the higher LSAT score and give yourself plenty of time to study for and take it! Write as many optionals as possible and make the case for how you are unique to a school given your experiences, interests, etc. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give Wave
I had a pretty tight resume with plenty of softs related to mentorship, athletics, and research, as well as demonstrated success in a field (IP/tech) where there are very few URMs.
