About & Wisdom

DolphinBoy2's wisdom

Advice #1: Take the LSAT as many times as you can (assuming you’re studying in-between attempts so you actually have a chance at a better score). I took it twice and without a doubt I had a much better cycle because of it.
Advice #2: Apply early. I wish I would’ve applied right when applications opened so I would’ve known my results sooner and gotten a headstart on finding housing (and it’s just nice to have it figured out, especially if you’re still in undergrad like me).
Advice #3: Write all the essays. I’m convinced that my “Why Berkeley?” essay played a big role in my acceptance and gift aid. I know it’s annoying, but put in a little research and write solid essays for the schools that allow you to. I didn’t write them for every school, and I wish I had. It’s 100% worth the time and effort.
Advice #4: Once you get into schools, always go through their scholarship/aid consideration process, even if you know you won’t attend. It’s crucial for negotiating better offers from your preferred school.
Advice #5: Be proactive about waitlists. Send letters of continued interest, go to online seminars, maybe even call the admissions office if you’re comfortable enough. Otherwise, you’re likely to get passed over by those who do go the extra mile. If nothing else, you know you really gave it your all so you’ll have fewer lingering regrets. Just don’t pester.
Advice #6: Try not to stress. This process sucks the life out of virtually everyone. Do your best and try to be optimistic. Unless you get 0 rejections, which is almost impossible if you apply to a lot of schools, you’re going to have some disappointment. Keep your head up, move on, there’s way more to life than law school (even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes).
