I think applying earlier (literally any month before January) would’ve likely helped, but I believe this is primarily true for the availability of scholarship money. In such a crazy cycle, I think applying on the later-side didn’t hurt as much as general wisdom states. Not sure if this is a “trend” or the reality that some schools are more “holistic” than others.

My primary take away is that essays are, in fact, determining factors in law school admissions. Making a good case for yourself, and your aspirations with a law degree in hand, are really important. I practically wrote a statement of purpose/research intention for some schools, which I think became compelling with my work experience. While I had a hard stat that put me above one median for most law schools I applied to, and one that placed below for most, this didn’t close doors for most schools. As long as you’re within the ballpark, give them every reason for why you’d make a great student, and future alum, of the law school. Write all of the optional essays and get creative if needed - apply for named scholarship opportunity if only to give yourself more words to advocate on your behalf.
