Wisdom

  • Care about your grades! Especially in those classes that don’t really apply to your degree/you don’t really find excitement in. Any little boost you can give to your GPA will be crucial, especially with most school’s medians being so high. Clearly there was a reason for my 3.59, and slacking in the easy/boring classes was most likely it.
  • Choose recommenders you have a great relationship with. Talk to professors outside of class, get to know them and let them get to know you. Same with professional supervisors/mentors. A heartfelt recommendation has a lot more buying power than a shallow one attached to a more impressive name/title.
  • Don’t be afraid to brag about yourself on your applications. It’s definitely possible to “show off” the things you’ve accomplished thus far in life without coming off like a blowhard.
  • Long term, modular, highly specific LSAT training is great (e.g., LSAT Trainer and similar books), but when push comes to shove, you need to grind full PT’s. Before my first attempt at the test, my highest PT was a 163 and I scored a 158. In the month between receiving results/taking my next exam, I busted out at least one full PT a day + review, and boosted my average scores to 16high 17low. Don’t beat yourself up over test day anxiety either, it’s totally understandable.
