TakeEmToSchool's wisdom

Take this whole process in parts:
Figure out why you want to go to law schoolReally journal this out, get real with yourself (is it a career you have concrete reasons for thinking will be fulfilling or rewarding for you? Do not- go to law school because it’s the next thing to do or it would make [insert person] proud)
Once you’ve decided you absolutely want to be a lawyer (and you know why), kill the LSATI did TestMasters and I highly recommend- them. Incredible online platform and I loved my in-person instructor
Really put your head down at this stage and only focus on the LSAT. Improve your ability to be present- (this is a huge part of close reading and staying confident over the duration of the test)
Do not go on Reddit - (yet)

  • Take a lot of time to write and rewrite your applications materials. The first bullet point in this list will make is easier to put yourself in these essays. Do not rush this part. You’re more than a number and admissions people have plenty of great numbers to choose from. They want to know you and root for you when they admit you.
Listen to every podcast- out there about the application process
  • Status Check with Spivey
  • 7Sage Admissions Podcast
  • Admissible
  • Navigating Law School Admissions Podcast
  • PowerScore (they did incredible one-offs on scholarship reconsideration and some other important topics)
Apply broadly, I mean broadly. Reaches, targets, and safeties. And on the reaches/targets side, apply to schools you’re not even interested in because if they offer you aid, you’ll be able to leverage that aid offer - if the school you actually want to go to doesn’t offer any/much money. I wish I’d applied to Michigan, Virginia, Georgetown, and Cornell for these reasons.
Realize that this is the start of a lifelong career. Be a good person, be kind, make good impressions. Don’t treat people like you’re competing with them. People remember how you make them feel, so be open to new friends and friendly convos even if there’s nothing to “gain” (You have something to learn from everyone and having a generally positive, warm reputation is huge- )
Do your best not to compare yourself with others. This is so hard (and no one is totally free of this in any part of their life) but really limit your Reddit habit. Just come to terms with the fact that what’s yours is yours. You got this. If you work hard at what you’re passionate about, you’ll be satisfied and successful.Trust yourself with your decision. There are so many opinions out there ($ vs. rank, what’s T-14, blah blah), so you need to get in the habit of taking in what you hear, evaluating it for yourself, and making your own decision. It’s okay if someone else would make a different decision given your options.- I decided to go with my dream school even though my debt will be significant because I trust that the network and platform I’m gaining will be well worth it, but that’s me! Make your own decision.
