About & Wisdom

TameSteadfastOriole's wisdom

You want to think about the value add of each item for your admissions package as a piece of the puzzle. The resume highlights your professional experience and skills, your transcripts highlight your academic interest from college and the academic rigor you’ve taken on, and the LSAT?GRE standardizes your academic abilities across the pool. And these should’ve be seen as opportunities - since you probably have great scores, grades, and experiences!

So okay – let’s use this opportunity framework. What unique opportunity does each prompt give you to showcase who you are and why you’d be a good fit for the program?

Resume -> opportunity to lay out in a structured way everything you’ve accomplished/done

Transcripts -> chance to show your academic interest and in-class room abilities

LSAT -> chance to display your reasoning and deducation skills

Personal statement -> chance for you to bring out the person in all of these things. You want to go beyond the accomplishments and illustrate the person behind them - why did they do it? what core values do they have? What problems (business or social) do they want to solve? How did they get those values? Why is law school the next thing to be done along those core values or intellectual interest?

Diversity statement -> chance for you to show what unique perspective you’ll bring.
