TrvthX's wisdom
It is never over until it is over. If you’re an anxiety-ridden bean doom scrolling through here, I hope you find whatever it is you’re looking for by stalking my stats and profile o-o
My generic number one piece of advice is to get applications in as soon as possible. Obviously don’t rush things to just submit stuff but start as early as you can, plan to hate your first two drafts, and have a friend look your materials over once or twice.
I applied with strong letters of recommendation, average to maybe above average essays, and in February. I worked as a barista for a year and did not have the cycle I hoped for. Going in my top choices were Georgetown, NYU, and Harvard (gotta dream big lmao). In the end, I got into GULC and that’s where I am going!!
How I did it: I first applied to Georgetown February 1st. I got the group interview invite March 5th, interviewed a couple of weeks later, and got my initial WL decision on April 1st (obviously it was an April fools joke). I responded the same day with a LOCI in the form of an email, replying to the decision telling them I would attend immediately if accepted. I attended the WL info session and got a feeler email a week later. I sent in a formal LOCI telling GULC I would attend immediately and providing my career updates. After sending this in I emailed a week later basically saying “I would attend regardless of scholarships as Georgetown is my top choice”. It was radio silence from that feeler for the next month until I finally got the A! Don’t give up, don’t email annoying them every day, and don’t forget to lean on your support systems!
