LSAT
Do not sign up for an official test if your PT scores are not consistently in your goal range. I made this mistake three times.
Cold Diagnostic December 2022: 152
September 2023 LSAT 176
GPA: I was six years removed from college when I decided to apply to law school, so there wasn’t much I could do in this department. I did my best to demonstrate my ability through the LSAT and writing materials.
General advice: I highly recommend applying and appealing for an LSAC fee waiver. All but one of my application fees were covered. The value of this waiver alone is north of $2,000, and by being able to apply broadly, you’re almost sure to save yourself money with scholarships.
I have requested and received CAS fee waivers from Texas A&M, Arizona State, SMU, and Baylor. I reached out and individually asked every other school on my list. A few schools (Penn State, Indiana) reached out and offered free CAS waivers throughout the cycle, so I sent an application their way.
Apply broadly**!!! **Especially if you’re a splitter/reverse splitter like I am. If there are schools you’d consider that are “out of your range” and you can afford to apply, do it. Don’t leave any “what ifs” on the table. Rejection/WL is part of the process.
LORs: I submitted two letters to every school. Both were professional. I was six years removed from undergraduate studies when I applied, and I felt that my work experience should be highlighted. I also didn’t have any ongoing communication with professors from my undergrad. I emailed two former professors I enjoyed and received A’s from but never got a reply. I wasn’t sure they’d remember me anyway, and I didn’t want someone to write me an insincere letter.
Written materials/interviews:
I wrote optional written materials for every school that allowed it.
