I wrote a why x/equivalent essay for Penn, UVA, Berkeley, Michigan, Duke, and Vandy. I worked hard to create a cohesive narrative that pulled together some of the disparate threads of my resume and answered why law, why now, and why me. I really wanted to make sure that my materials together painted a good picture of what I would bring to the community at the law schools I was applying to. I think my resume backed up this story by showing how involved I was in college and how I’ve gone the extra mile in my current job.

My core advice would be to really trust your own judgment. While I think it’s important to have people review your essays, you are the person that knows your story and your motivations for going to law school the best. Ultimately, you need to have faith in your own voice and story and do justice to it.
